Beyond the Spectrum

Beyond The Spectrum is a UK wide autism arts and creative writing programme led by and for Autistic writers. It aims to enable Autistic individuals to express their voice and life experiences through arts engagement – promoting individual wellbeing, public awareness, and representation of autism in the arts. By connecting autism and creative arts, Beyond The Spectrum offers a unique programme, bringing Autistic people together to enhance communication and understanding.

Beyond the Spectrum runs free creative writing workshops for autistic adults and young people.

Event poster for a panel discussion titled 'From Page to Stage and Screen' with Jess Telling, Claire Ingham, and Matthew Huntbach, scheduled for Saturday, March 28th, from 4 to 5 PM, part of Words Unwound, an online festival of autistic writing. The background resembles lined notebook paper with a pen illustration and a purple, wavy line.

I’ve worked with Beyond the Spectrum since January 2025. I began as a Shadow Writer (Assistant Facilitator) for Beyond the Spectrum’s group in collaboration with New Writing South for online creative writing workshops which is about to return for its third year.

I created and facilitated an online masterclass called ‘Writing for the Stage’ as part of the Beyond the Spectrum summer programme and participated in the panel ‘From Page to Screen’ as part of the Words Unwound online festival. I’ll be leading and facilitating the first scriptwriting dedicated group, beginning in October 2026.

DIY Theatre Company

From November 2025 to July 2026, I worked with DIY Theatre Company as an Emerging Artist.

DIY Theatre Company is a company of performers with learning disabilities based in Salford, where performers have the option to become a Gamechanger. Gamechangers Emerging Leaders Group is an encouraging and friendly space where emerging leaders with lived experience of learning disability support one another to develop their facilitation and leadership skills in the arts.

As Emerging Artist, I supported the Gamechanger Emerging Leaders and Lead Facilitator in delivering in-school drama and arts sessions in a specialised college in Swinton. Our work supported the curriculum and taught students key skills that prepared them for work, independence and skills for life. This work taught me key skills in sensory theatre, creative support work, and working alongside creatives with a range of access needs.

A colorful, stylized logo for Theater Company featuring two figures, a person running and a person in a wheelchair, with a string of multicolored pennant flags above. The text reads 'Thatre Company' in purple.
